Apple Vision Pro is the augmented and virtual reality headset that supports spatial computer, which means user can experience digital contents but they still can move or use their body on the real world physically. Apple Vision Pro can mapping real-word objects into digital objects through augmented reality feature and you don’t need to worry about bumping those objects because Apple Vision Pro have accurate conversion when translating your surroundings. The virtual reality feature is also astonishing to experience and make it seem you’re moving into the digital virtual world. You can also control the immersive “digital world” and “physical world” around you with Digital Crown. The left button on Apple Vision Pro headset also can capture 3D videos and picture, bringing virtual reality experience into the next level.
However, The Price Will Make You Think Twice, or Even Thrice
While Apple Vision Pro might be the best virtual reality headset, and also augmented reality, it was too costly for most people. $3,599 is what you need to spend for this impressive googles. Of course you can experience digital world as the real world with Apple Vision Pro thanks to the massive performance from M2 chip, and ability to track your body gestures, eyes, and even support voice commands. But you need to think again about your salary and expenses. In the USA, the cost of living for single person (including house rent, transportation, meals, and other utilities) is around $3,200/month and it might be cheaper if you live outside big city like Indianapolis.
The Cheaper Alternative
Before Apple Vision Pro exist, some competitors already made virtual reality headsets with similar features. You should able to save at least $1,500 when you choose to buy Meta Quest headsets (either Meta Quest 3 for $499 or Meta Quest Pro for $999) or if you like gaming, you can opt for PlayStation VR2 with the cost $549 (not including PS5). Despite with some less features, these headsets still can give more than enough to experience virtual reality.
What will Apple do to Solve “Expensive Apple Vision Pro”?
Apple will build new version of Apple Vision with alternative components that will supposedly able to reduce development costs, but still promises impressive virtual reality experience to anyone. Apple aims to build cheaper Apple Vision with the price range between $1,500 and $2,500, and because Apple still have trouble to reduce costs for making cheaper Apple Vision headset, it won’t be likely come at 2025.
Closing Words
The Apple Vision Pro currently has the potential to dominate virtual reality headsets. However, the expensive price was not good enough to compete with similar products like the Meta Quest series, Oculus, Playstation VR2, etc. But still, Apple already proved they can face business on VR headsets, Apple just needs to 2-3 steps forward to face the competition, the affordable price, component that are easy to make or find and available worldwide.
